The assessment of current skills needs undertaken for Semta involved detailed analysis of:

• The numbers employed and numbers of establishments, size profile of establishments and concentrations of employment (Sector profile);

• Workforce demographics - working status, gender, occupation, ethnicity and age;

• Employment trends - historical trends, recent employer experience and expectations and future projections;

• Competitiveness and productivity; Skills issues - drivers of skills change, current skills and qualifications, recruitment issues and skills needs and gaps; and

• Overall conclusions in relation to current provision for skill needs in the Semta footprint, by industry.
