Review of Education and Training Provision for Sectors in the West Midlands Lifelong Learning Sector

Research description
The purpose of the research was to undertake a detailed review of supply and demand for the lifelong learning sector within the West Midlands Region, based on available secondary data. This included:

• Analysis of the demand for skills within the regional lifelong learning sector using available secondary data sources, including the National Employer Skills Survey, Labour Force Survey, Working Futures Employment Projections and relevant data from the Lifelong Learning SSC;

• Analysis of the regional supply of skills serving the lifelong learning sector based on ILR data (FE and Work Based) and HE data, as supplied by the LSC, using the qualification definitions identified by the LSC;

• Identification of mismatches between supply and demand, based on the above analysis;

• In conjunction with the LSC and Project Steering Group, development of recommendations and an Action Plan to address key skills mismatches;
