Financial Sector
Client:
Birmingham and Solihull LSC
Date completed:
September 2003
Project description:
The purpose of the research was to explore the following:
1. The sector's recruitment needs and employment opportunities on offer,
broken down by sub-sector
2. Employers' recruitment and selection policies and any limitations associated
with these, which may act as barriers on people entering the sector
3. Employers' HR and workforce development policies and the influence
of these policies on staff retention.
The assignment was undertaken utilising a combination of self-completion
survey returns and in depth face-to-face interviews.
The report set out a number of practical actions in relation to different
sub-sectors.
These included actions relating to enhancing career entry and progression
routes, tackling diversity issues, improving labour market information,
accessing examples of good practice, tackling skill problems, improving
the image of specific sub sectors, supporting growth, and enhancing workforce
development procedures.
