Client:
Birmingham and Solihull Community Learning Consortium/Birmingham Voluntary Service Council
Date completed:
February 2003
Project description:
The programme of research relating to skill development and life long learning within the Birmingham and Solihull voluntary and community sector was designed to underpin the future activities of the Community Learning Consortium.
The project involved more than 40 face-to-face semi structured interviews, a telephone survey of 350 voluntary sector organisations, together with a postal survey of volunteers and Trustees/Board members.
The detailed report highlighted a wide range of issues including the impact of government policy, training and skill development issues, current practice in terms of quality standards and HR management, funding issues and challenges, employment practices in relation to paid staff and volunteers.
It also highlighted skill needs and shortages, support needs and examples of good practice within the Birmingham and Solihull voluntary sector.
