Project description:
The project involved a strategic assessment of employer demand in the north
Birmingham area on behalf of the Birmingham and Solihull LSC and key partners.
The purpose of the project was to:
Map employers within North Birmingham and the wider travel to work area
in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature and types
of businesses operating in North Birmingham and the wider travel to work
area
Develop a clear labour market assessment from an employer perspective
on the 'demand' side issues facing employers in relation to recruitment,
retention and skill needs and their views on supply side needs
Examine issues around employer engagement with the public and voluntary
and community sector and particularly focus on models of good practice
within the North Birmingham area, including existing protocols relating
to employer links
Map local travel to work patterns and identify transport issues relating
to the labour market in north Birmingham
Following a workshop of key stakeholders to discuss the research findings
the final report set out a number of practical recommendations for action,
including those relating to:
The development of an integrated employment strategy for north Birmingham
Linking residents of north Birmingham to employment opportunities in
other areas
Improving employer engagement activities
