Improving FE College management information
Client:
College of North East London (CoNEL)
Project completed:
April 2004
Project description:
The project was initiated by CoNEL in response to the outcomes of an Ofsted
inspection.
The research involved extensive use of both Individual Student Record
(ISR) and Individual Learner Record (ILR) data to identify changing spatial
patterns of student intake over three years.
Data in relation to the student profile (age, gender and ethnicity) and
qualification aims was mapped at a detailed spatial level in order to
identify changes in relation to the College catchment. A particular focus
of the work has been in relation to Basic Skills provision.
A second phase of work involving the development of a predictive management
tool tailored to the needs of CONEL has enabled projections of future
student numbers and profiles to be undertaken in relation to different
local scenarios.
