Graduate retention in Birmingham and Solihull
Client:
Birmingham
and Solihull LSC
Project completed:
February 2005
Research description:
The research involved a detailed analysis of the retention of graduates
to local employment markets focussing on the Birmingham and Solihull area,
using available data sources.
A particular focus of the research was to determine how successful the West
Midlands region and Birmingham and Solihull have been in attracting and
retaining graduates within their respective labour markets.
The analysis was based on information purchased from the Higher Education
Statistical Agency (HESA) on the first destination (work or otherwise)
of graduates for 2000/01 and 2001/02. This allowed detailed analysis
on the net flows of graduates and analysis of graduates domiciled in
different areas of the region.
The research also provided a sound methodology for the future review of
local graduate employment markets.
